A working artist since the 1980s, Char Breshgold is a National Endowment for the Arts recipient, and has exhibited at Southern Exposure in San Francisco; COCA, Seattle; Portland Center for the Visual Arts (PCVA) and The Portland Art Museum.
In spite of never getting her pictures on the bulletin board as a child, Char Breshgold has been a working and exhibiting artist for 40 years. She paints, often from photos, using her art to tell stories. As a graphic designer, she helps not-for-profits and businesses get their stories out. She has incorporated collage in handmade books and multi-layered paintings. Collage is a medium she has always loved. She finds it freeing, letting the work unfold with no judgment or pre-conceived ideas about what it should be. Char is also a longtime meditator who finds awareness of her breath to be helpful in creating art. She was a member of The Girl Artists, a collaborative group whose archives have recently been acquired by The Smithsonian Archives of American Art.
View as a Designer
I want to make quality design accessible. I work collaboratively with clients–no matter how small or grand their projects–helping them to define their vision and in turn create beautiful and successful designs.
I have worked as a designer since 1998 and discovered a love of branding, type and telling stories visually. I worked as Creative Services Manager for New Seasons Market for 6 years before starting CB Art & Design in 2015. I've lived in Portland since the TriMet busses were orange – over 30 years. My long history in Portland has connected me to many communities; from farmers and chefs who grow and sell their food to artists, dancers and hunger relief non-profits. I love helping people make their stories visible and am passionate about the power of connecting with an audience both through design and my work as a painter. When I'm not working I love to hike and spend time in the garden with my partner Laura, growing too many vegetables and then figuring out what to cook.
